Royal Haslar, currently being converted into a residential and retirement village set in 62 acres, has opened a one-bed guest suite, where visiting family and friends can stay overnight in comfort and style

Within Canada House, a grand Grade-II listed Edwardian waterfront building containing 36 one-and two-bedroom apartments priced from just £220,000, a guest suite has been added in response to requests from homeowners.

The suite will be particularly invaluable to those who have downsized to one-bedroom apartments, and need extra space to host guests.

Homeowners at Royal Haslar, a former naval hospital overlooking the Solent in Hampshire, can now offer their extended family members and friends use of beautifully interior-designed accommodation, a true home from home.

The guest suite offers a fully equipped dine-in kitchen including a fridge, washing machine, kettle, crockery and cooking utensils, plus tea, coffee and milk, and a comfortable bedroom with twin beds and crisp, fresh linen and plenty of storage.

The light and airy living space, which has elegant sash windows, has been carefully furnished with a sofa, armchair, contemporary art and a television, and in the designer monochrome bathroom you’ll find fluffy towels on the heated rail.

All these amenities are available to guests for just £50 per night.

The fee also includes a full cleaning service, use of visitor spaces for overnight parking and Canada House’s lounges, one of which holds a library of curated books.

The guest apartment is the perfect base to spend time with family and friends, relax and explore the South Hampshire coast and learn about Royal Haslar’s unique heritage as a hospital that cared for sick and wounded Royal Navy sailors and marines, operating for over 250 years from 1753 until 2007.

One of a series of architecturally important Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian buildings, set in 62 acres of Grade II Listed grounds, red-brick Canada House has views over the Solent to the Isle of Wight, and is the former naval hospital’s first building to be transformed into a stunning retirement residence.

With striking architectural features dating from 1916-1917, such as an ornate pediment and a pillared colonnade on the ground floor, it bears a Portland stone plaque on its facade providing ornate lettering ‘From the Women of Canada’ in gratitude for care and aid given to Canadian Troops during the First World War.

The building was used to accommodate medical staff for many years.

Once complete, Royal Haslar will provide over 550 residential houses and apartments with convenience retail, leisure facilities and a new seafront Royal Haslar heritage museum.

The latest residences to be launched are the magnificent Georgian Trinity House, formerly known as the Quadrangle building but now renamed in honour of its original designer, Theodore Jacobsen, the architect of Dublin’s Trinity College.

Built in the style of a country house, it retains a wealth of original period features; many of the one and two-bedroom apartments will provide sweeping views over the four-acre central courtyard.

Pat Power, Director of Haslar Developments Ltd says: “We are delighted to be able to now offer a beautifully appointed, dedicated one-bedroom guest suite in Canada House. While bedrooms are available at Haslar Marina beside the Creek restaurant, just a five-minute walk away, Royal Haslar homeowners’ visiting families and friends can now take advantage of the ultimate convenience of staying within the same site or building.”

Karen Wood, Site Manager at Royal Haslar says: “We have already had wonderful feedback on the guest suite from several family members of homeowners at Royal Haslar, and are set to welcome many more. The booking process is stress-free, and the apartment offers a true home from home, with luxurious hotel-style amenities on hand and every need catered to. We very much look forward to meeting our residents’ family and friends, and making their stay here as comfortable and relaxing as possible.”

Prices at Trinity House  start from £220,000 and at Canada House from £265,000.
