Moving to a retirement village can add 10 years to your life [hidden]Retirement village[/hidden]

This statement was made recently by Cynthia Richards, a resident at Lime Tree Village  (pictured above) in Warwickshire.

Retirement village

Mrs Cynthia Richards – wouldn’t move from her retirement village, even if she won the pools!

Cynthia (right) and her late partner Bryn purchased at Lime Tree Village eight years ago but sadly, Bryn passed away in 2013. Ironically, Cynthia says this is when the village really came into its own.

“I became social secretary for the residents’ association here which has filled a void in my life,” explained Cynthia, 78. “If I wanted to, I could be out every day doing something, either here in the village or out with village friends visiting further afield.

“People look out for you but without being intrusive, you do feel very much part of a village community and that’s what I really like about the place. If I won the pools tomorrow I wouldn’t want to move!

“To be quite honest, I think living here gives you another 10 years of life, if you’re prepared to get involved. I would strongly recommend not leaving it too late though. I was 70 when I arrived; the younger you are the more you will get out of it.”

Cynthia’s words are echoed by a growing number of people who now choose a retirement village lifestyle as part of their future plans. Once regarded as a novel idea for the exclusive few, the retirement village model is now becoming a mainstream option and a practical, as well as attractive choice, for this age group.

However, retirement villages are not really a new phenomenon – Retirement Villages Group Ltd has been building and managing them for 30-plus years.

“Our experience means we have learned what really makes a great retirement proposition for people,” explained Sarah Burgess, Sales and Marketing Director.

The result is 14 villages, with more on the way. These are all very individual villages, each with its own identity, all in sought after locations, and many of them award winning.

Charters Village, one of the group’s latest new build projects

Purchasers choose from the best of both worlds – resale properties or a new build home. There are currently new build projects underway at Maynard House in Essex , The Polo Field in Warwickshire (an extension to the popular Lime Tree Village mentioned above) and Charters Village in West Sussex. Also, coming soon will be a new selection of properties at Elmbridge Village in Surrey.

“This is not simply a house purchase, people buy a slice of village life, including use of their own exclusive private facilities and grounds with some of our villages set in 20 acres and more,” added Sarah.

“Purchasers find themselves among like-minded people where forging new friendships, starting up hobbies left behind many years ago, or going on trips they would never have embarked on alone, are regular occurrences.

“Equally, people choose to move for privacy and peace of mind, nothing more, and this type of village life can deliver this too.”
